Hey!!! All you NEETs, nerds, YouTube-link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis,
Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers,
Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters,
Big-boobs fans, Weeaboos from all over the world, learners of Japanese
who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, cunning
linguists, stupid fan girls of Johnny's Boys, Touhou pirates, and
that electrical super-gay who suffers from mental disease - This is your thread!
Let's hope Igirisu-jin and the Internet-addicted housewife will come back soon!

This is the place to have a ball!!!!!
Let's support recovery efforts in Japan!!!!!!

Excuse me, can I ask you a quick question? well, please help me.
I have trouble with my homework. I have to translate this English text
to Japanese.

"How long can you stand on one leg with your eyes closed
before you lose your balance? Try doing this exercise and time yourself;
your time is up when you open your eyes or lose your balance.
For a person in their 20s, 60seconds would be excellent. For someone
in their 60s, 15seconds would be good."

I can't understand third line and fourth line. What does that mean?
By any chance, s is not second? what is the "s"?

5 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/12(水) 00:53:04.55
I'm sorry. I have the wrong line. I can't understand fourth and fifth line.
The term "s" is used in "in their 20s, in their 60s".

6 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/12(水) 01:06:17.28

20s stands for twenties. Good job.

7 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/12(水) 01:10:20.75

They "In their 20s" means "In their twenties". That is, people who are 20-29 years old.

Yama-P's sister wrote in her blog that she wants everybody to understand the 8 years of patience of his.
(the blog entry has already been deleted)

So NEWS fans got angry, like "What? Being a member of News for 8 years equals to 8 years of patience?
He wanted to leave the group sooner but he was patient enough not to?" "Isn't the comment rude to
the rest of NEWS memeber and their fans?"

Everybody who read the blog entry and got angry resorted to Twitter and striked back against her, sending messages on her
Twitter account. http://twitter.com/#!/rinayamashita

After this commotion, she posted a comment on her blog, apologizing for what she had wrote.
http://ameblo.jp/rina-maharo2/ (Rough translation of her post is below.)
---------
"I really appologize for making you feel bad and uncomfortable because of my
inappropriate remark.

I was not in a position in the first place where I can comment on that (=his leaving the group)
so I'm deeply sorry (for my imprudent comment.)

Although my brother never talks with me about his job, I posted
such an entry on my blog (and ended up causing commotion.)
I'm deeply sorry."

if you're able to cook:

Actually, "Famima" (owned by FamilyMart) has 11 locations in LA.

There are a lot of tutorials on how to cook on Youtube, and probably
a bunch of other places. Or you could always buy a cookbook...

As you know, iPhone4S has finaly released. Well, I'm not interesed in smartphone at all. So I don't want at all.
Personally speaking, I prefer foldable phones to smartphones. I hate putting fingerprints on cellphone. I wanna
keep it clean. And I treat all buyers who bought iPhone4S on the first released day as "simple-minded trend
followers". I suggest that they should've waited until the phone's price gets down.

Buying something on the first released day is stupid and non-bright shopping way, I do think.

Many multi-touch implementations were developed by a company called FingerWorks,
which was founded in 1998. However, Apple bought the company in 2005, along with
their patents. Multi-touch itself has been around in ideas since the 1970s, with
some devices using early concepts in the 1980s. Apple bought the patents, rather
than developing the technology itself.

Speaking of Apple, have you heard it filed patent lawsuits against Samsung?
Japanese TV media wouldn't try to broadcast news that may harm Korea's reputation, but
on the net, many people show interest in what's going on.

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if the majority of English people knew Samsung is a Korean company?
Many people pointed out that Samsung has been trying to hide its identity because they want to be
considered a Japanese company. Take a look at the image below.

One of the most important things that worries me here is that many people believe Samsung is a Japanese company that breaks patents.
Korean people have a bad habit of doing bad things in disguise of Japanese.
I read months ago, for example, that a Korean woman got arrested in Taiwan or Hong Kong for doing something bad (sorry I forgot exactly what)
after she claimed she was Japanese (what the heck is the purpose of that?).
There are many more examples like this than I can't remember now.

You can't pick one or two examples to generalize what others do.
Though it's absolutely true that most Japanese restaurants in my city,
which is one of top ten in the US, are owned by either Korean or Chinese people.
Though some places serve ok food, some dishes are awkward.
For example, one place serves a rice bowl with katsu and sunny side up on it.
We do not call it a "Katsu-don". (But it's my favorite).

Here's the reason why I said that to you.
When you make friends with foreign people, your english can be broken.
But if you are attacking or criticizing others,
you have to be convincing (e.g. using correct english or showing evidences etc).
Your writing is clear and easy to follow, but not quite good to persuade people.
But this is 2ch, probably you don't have to be that serious.

Living in Texas is not as bad as most people think. It's civilized in cities.
We don't see cowboys with 44 magnums outside Rodeo shows.

There aren't so many places in Houston which attract travelers,
but it's good place to live because of very inexpensive living costs
(especially food and housing), and huge ethnic diversity.
Weather is terrible in summer (and a half of every year is summer),
but from October through March is amazing.

It's a shame that he wasn't able to be taken alive. There were still many questions to be asked of him,
especially in the case of the Lockerbie Bombing, of Pan Am Flight 103, which killed 270 people. And
of his involvement in deals with people such as our former prime minister, Tony Blair.

It's best to use what you feel most comfortable with, as well as what gives you the functionality you need.
It's just a shame that all these manufacturers are suing and counter-suing, when it's competition that leads

I'd say most people here are aware that Samsung is a Korean company, but other Korean companies are
sometimes confused with Japanese companies. One such example was a question on some quiz where the
answer implied that Hyundai was a Japanese motor company. As for LG, it's not widely known here that
they are Korean. Most people think LG stands for "Life's Good", which is their advertising slogan here,
rather than "Lucky Goldstar".

With the exception of Shinee, I don't listen to KPOP at all.
With JPOP, the feeling is so much different, the appeal is more
direct but subtle. I also follow bands from other countries who
have that sort of appeal. But for me, JPOP is one way of understanding the sophisticated
culture of yours. Even if it is idol music that you look down on, is
interesting to me. Because everything is coded so differently, so
unusually, that is why it is so refreshingly different.

Kara are very good looking and talented, but when the queen of KPOP
is undoubtedly BOA.

I think music is all about life energy, if you can describe it well,
and get into the mind of the audience, and move them emotionally,
then you are making great music. Because mood varies from individual
to individual, also with time; and because emotional perception differs,
from nation to nation, there will be different tastes in music.

I think most of us look for music that maps to our emotions. If we find
it does, we derive pleasure from it.

Now, let's talk about "twitter-tool".

Lately, I've heard shameful news that one of my university's students
confessed comitting drunken driving on her own twitter page.
Needless to say, the tweetings have been unveiled by someone. Sigh...

I'm so sad and embarrassed. Why did she do such silly things?
I guess she thought her confession might not be unveiled in public. But,
as you all know, this internet world is filled with many dangers..

All she should've done is to know the fact. Ah...
Incidentally, I've never done such thing before. I'm a good guy! Yah.
Why?I don't have driver's license. I don't wanna buy car now. I think
I'm good enough to using train and bicycle.

Overview of the talk.

"My first 5 or 6 songs were not cheery, they were songs with dark tones. But they (people
behind her, like talent agency who try to sell her perhaps ?) seemed to thought
the tones of thsese songs hadn't had reflect her real character. So from then on, the tone of her songs
changed drastically to cheerful ones."

Asked if she still remembers choreographies of her songs, she replied, "I don't remember them much anymore.
Maybe I wasn't serious about choreographies.

4:33-5:35 She talked with the man (ken Hirai) about the song he covers in the music TV show.
----His cover song-----
Asked about how she wants to live her own life as a person or as a person in show business, she replied,
"I'm working really hard like everybody around my age. You know, the harder you work, the more
you are paid. When I was young, I didn't know at all on what I wanted to spend money I earned. Now I'm getting
older and if you go into, say, your forties, you begin to feel less confident about yourself (in terms of
physical attractiveness). So to complement the lost (physical) attractiveness, I buy a dress if it's my
kind of dress, without hesitation right on the spot.

271 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/24(月) 04:03:31.14
The man said, "You have earned enough (to buy whatever you want since you were younger) in the first place."
She replied, "(Even if I have earned much as a successful artist, )I was less materialistic when I was younger.

Talking about her time after retirnment when she gets old, "I definately want to avoid dying alone." (Translator note: Dying alone in a house/apartment is
kind of a social problem here in Japan. In urban areas, especially, communications and ties with neighbors are weak so sometimes old people was found dead
alone in a house/apartment without being noticed for days, weeks or even monthes. That's the complete opposite of the death surround by family members.)

"Fortunately I have lots of unmarried friends so I plan to work really hard and save lots of money
and become rich so that I can buy the whole apartment units of one building. And I want to make sort of like a commune with
my unmarried friends."

Asked, "You already have enough money to do that," she replied, "Not really, I need to save
steadily one by one. I want to make a nursing home like that with young couple living on the first floor
of the building."

----------11:00------
I gave you the overview of 00:00 to around 11:00, nearly half of the video.
I need to sleep now. I'll do the rest when I have time tomorrow, no today already.
The time slider might not be so accurate by the way...

272 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/24(月) 04:13:49.93
"with a young couple living on the first floor of the building to take care of the old people living in the nursing home, including Kyon2 ."
is what she meant. She wants the young coulple to work as a caregiver or somthing.
She is just half jokingly showing this retirenment plan. Maybe she's more serious than I think, though.

Asked about any ideas or plans about going out with a man and getting married again,
she replied, "I'm becoming to care less about such things. But I'm sure it was a good thing
that I experienced marriage in my life. Looking back, I was fortunate to be married with a nice person.
I think I have my ideal traditional image of a woman in my mind, which I want to fit the image if I can,
but as I have been working, I cant become such a woman. It's my problem but I end up being dissappointed with myself because
I can't be such a woman. In retrospect, I should have retired from show business after getting married (so that
I can be a good housewife)

The man said, "That whould have been sad news for your fans." She replied, "That's what my husband
said to me, too back then. (so I didn't leave showbusiness) He said you should continue to work (for fans)."
Then she told about how difficult it is to balance work and time spent with husband.

---------his song---------

17:20 The man said, "I heard that you spend your birthday alone every year. Is that right?"
Kyon2 replied, "Yes, that's true. Since I'm 20 years old or so, I spend my birthday alone.
Back then my agency asked me what I wanted for birthday and I told them
I wanted a day-off on my birthday. And actually I spent the birthday alone on the year.
I felt very comfortable, spending my birthday alone. I wondered why I felt comfortable.
The answer was, to me, birthday is, in essence, not something being celebrated by anybody in my opinion.
It's more of something you're grateful for on your own. So I made it a rule to be grateful for
my birth on my birthday every year. And on every birthday, I decide how I should spend the next 365 days from the
birthday. I don't buy a birthday cake. I don't make gorgeous dinner. I just read a book and spend the day in no special way."

278 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/24(月) 16:32:52.37
(cont.)

Asked about if she has spent each and every birthday alone, she replied, "To be honest,
I have spent the day with boyfriend a few times."

------his song------

The man said, "My impression on you is that you seldom get angry and you are calm all the time."
She replied, "Yeah, maybe you're right. When I'm in a situation where one person could make me angry, I sort of analyze why
the person behaved like that and before going beyond anger limit, I usually concludes that the person wasn't ill-intentioned.

The man asked, "Have you ever gotten angry to the extent you shout to a person?"
She jokingly replied, "My mother Yumi, often gets on my nerves. She loves playing Pachinko (Japanese gamble, looks like a vertical
pinball machine) and when she was at my place, she took away some money of mine which were placed on the table to play Pachinko.
After I came back from work, I found the money is gone and I asked her where is the money. She goes 'huh? I spent the money on Pachinko." And
I was like 'huh?" and she said 'No problem. I'm sure I can get back the money if I go and play Pachinko again
the first thing in the morning.' I said to her, 'that was part of my hard-earned money. Do you understand how hard
I work?' She was like, 'Sorry, I'll never do that. I'm really sorry...'
But I know she'll do that again. She's a lovable person after all."

<End> I hope you'll enjoy it.

Walkman, mainly because the sound quality is superior to that of the
iPod. As >>297 correctly mentions, the image associated with the iPod
goes beyond that of the Walkman, but I prefer performance over design.
Maybe because I work in marketing and am familiar with their methods.

Also, the iPod is manufactured in Chinese factories under appalling
conditions for the workers, with negligence causing the deaths of
workers due to poor machine maintenance. There have been scores of
suicides at the factories too (14 in 2010 alone), so now some of the
factories are equipped with suicide prevention netting, and a clause
to "not kill yourself" has been added to the contract.

302 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/25(火) 17:12:50.15
>>301
I heard the shocking news for the first time.
I wonder what would happen if a worker violate the clause?
Their relatives or parents have to pay some money to the company that runs
the factory? Maybe salary of the month when he commit a suicide isn't
paid or something like that...

If not, such a clause doesn't make sense at all, does it?
Nobody can stop a person from commiting a suiside if they decided to
do that.

This video shows how difficult for average Japanese to pronounce r and l
sounds distinguishingly by using voice recognition service called Siri
equipped in iPhone4S.

By the way Siri means ass in Japanese. So the name of the service cause a
little bit of a fuss in Japan. Like the name of iPad resembles woman's
hygene products for period and made a fuss in US.

305 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/25(火) 19:30:05.66
>>304
Where in Japan is it the fuss? In a particular thread of 2ch?
I've never heard of it.

306 :発音矯正中:2011/10/25(火) 19:53:54.53
>>304
I do not think the problem is the distinction of l and r. The issue is that the guy cannot pronounce vowels properly.

I have also tried Siri and found out that I have a difficulty in pronouncing "wood". Siri recognizes my wood as "worked or work"

307 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2011/10/25(火) 19:57:16.29
And Momo-jiri means pink-sweet-ass.

308 :イギリス人:2011/10/25(火) 20:22:21.24
>>302
I think the clause just states that the company will not accept
any legal liability for the suicide, which would prevent relatives
taking legal action.

>>304
To be fair, they state that only English, French and German is
supported in Siri right now, with support for Japanese (and some
other languages) coming into effect sometime next year.

Even though Google have had voice commands in Android for a while,
it doesn't offer the extent of control as Siri. However, Google's
voice recognition is excellent (as demonstrated in Google Translate
Mobile's conversation mode), and even recognises my poor attempts
at Japanese (most of the time).

Siri's co-founder left Apple yesterday, not sure if that has any
implications yet.

Your English is good there. I'd only make very minor changes:
I -> I've / I have
director is -> directors are (since you've mentioned more than one)

It's difficult to make recommendations without knowing taste, but based
on the directors, you like movies with both action and story, and not
necessarily with a real-life background.

Anyway, I'd recommend Inland Empire, Zodiac, Children of Men, maybe
The New World (2006... there are so many with that name). I'd recommend
The Departed, but only because it's an English-language version of
Infernal Affairs, which Scorcese shamelessly stole. The original was
much better (but not in English). Hopefully you haven't seen those already.

This, this, a million times this! Oh man, am I so glad I bought a kotatsu. My cats love it too.
They're really rare in America though. Nobody knows what it is, and I had a hard time
explaining it to my boss.

Anyway, whoever it was that invented the kotatsu needs to have a holiday in his honor.
By my calculations, at the end of this winter, the kotatsu will have paid for itself
by the gas savings alone. (Natural gas for heating is very expensive here, and
the gas company wants to raise the rates again this winter...)

Thank you thank you thank you! You made me very happy!
I love KyonKyon. She is such an awesome artist.
She is sooo different from a lot of artists.
I like her sense of humour and free thinking ways.

356 :KG2ch:2011/10/27(木) 09:21:10.75
I was saddened to hear of her marriage wishes not coming true and
retirement plans in that interview. She talks too nicely of a man who
cheated on her. I used think not so favourably of Nagase MAsatoshi,
especially when I heard he left KyonKyon for a younger woman. But
tonight I watched Mainichi Okaasan, he is a very good actor. It is
really saddening to watch them sign divorce papers on screen. There
is such an element of reality in that scene.

357 :KG2ch:2011/10/27(木) 09:23:05.18
But the film left with me such a warm feeling. It was so moving!
It was sad to hear she would be living alone in a commune of
unmarried friends. She sounds as if she is in her eighties!
She is still young!
I hope the man who loves her most can give her a good life
and she would not be unhappy or alone all the time.
Thanks again for your kind translation.

I'd say it's just she wasn't a type of a woman who could retire from show
business after getting married. Once you are on the spotlight and know the taste
of honey, it's difficult to become an ordinary citizen.

If she was really serious about quitting show business and had determination to dedicate
her all time to doing housework and child raring, she could have done that.
But that could have meant to give up all of the attentions drawn to her.
To become an ordinary citizen is hard once you have been in the spotlight.
The nature of attention whore never goes away.

360 :KG2ch:2011/10/27(木) 11:57:32.96
>>359 Wow that is some cruel thinking. Maybe she couldn't do that, because
she could not have a child.

There is no point to staying at home, waiting for the husband,
if you don't have a baby, is there.

Anyway I feel sad talking about such things. I think KyonKyon
put her life into her work and fans appreciate it.

Most unlikely but lists of hospitals where some of their staff understand English
is around on the Internet. Even not on the net if you go to city hall,
they give you such info.
If your city is relatively big, then there is a network of English speaking people, too.

If you end up living in rural areas, not much is expected.

I think that the problem is a little related to religion each people have.
Japanese have traditionally the belief of nature and ancestor, called "Shinto".
"Shinto" has a lot of deities.
One of deities is "Amaterasu-ohomikami".
This deity is the symbol of the sun and exists in the center of "Shinto".
And this is a woman. She isn't pushy.
I think this thing is related to national characteristics so much.

In japan, the running person of family or society is basically women.
What is needed is naturally shown to girls from childhood.
So Japan is often called a maternal society.
Those who have power is MOTHER in Japan.
You should think there is always mother beyond men.

Japanese men don't have power much as strong as English.
And Japanese ordinary women don't as pushy as English.
It's difficult to explain! Sorry for poor.

I have a question.

There's a term "big guy" and my dictionay explains it like this.
"A term of endearment, usually addressed toward an all-around good male person."

Q1. He, who is addressed as "big guy" doesn't have to physically big, does it?
Q2. Is it the same as "Teddy bear"? A man described as "Teddy bear" has to be physicall big?
Q3. "Teddy bear" and "big guy" can be used interchangably? (although this question is already answered in Q1 and Q2)

Thank you.

Is that right. You first wrote, "Hello I'm from UK and live in Tokyo."
"Hello I'm from UK and am visiting/staying Tokyo." sounds more like it to me,
although I'm an English learner and I may be wrong.

A British and bussiness reminds me of the ex Olympus president who
were just fired a week ago or so. This has lead to a big scandal involiving
dubious mergers, which even FBI and British authorities has started investigation.

If you are staying in Tokyo and Otaku, you can enjoy Akihabara to your heart's content.

Are you a native speaker of English?

"I often come to Japan because of the business matter" sounds strange.
"I often come to Japan for business matters" is more natural and sounds
less like an English learner. Shouldn't "I'm from UK" be "I'm from the
UK"?

'Stay' makes more sense than 'live' but I wanted to say 'I live in Japan' because this isn't a business trip but a private one plus I've been staying in the guest house as if living here.
Also, I could say 'for business matters' but I chose 'because of business matters' with no reasons.

today in TOEIC test, I was claimed to be noisy.
I acknowledge that I tend to move a little when I concentrate on something.
and because of my bad posture, I tried to remedy it.
When listening section ended , people who was in front of and behind me changed their seat.
I felt sorry for it and changed my seat not to disturb people around me.
but after that , I can't concentrate on the test at all.
I've never experienced problem like this.....to be honest, I wanted to tell them lots of things...but I can't do anything.

C: "Trick or treat!" means that "if you don't give me some sweets, I will get into mischeif to you!"

A: "Trick or treat!" means that "if you don't have a sex with me, I will molest you!"

Gee, it's so fuckin' nonsense... Anyway, I hope you all will enjoy today.

It's what you say when you knock on someone's door on Halloween.
You expect to get either scared (a trick) or candy (a treat).
Almost nobody does the scaring anymore, and most people have forgotten about it.

Recently Halloween is forbidden in many communities due to religious or safety concerns.
It's a dying tradition.

I don't think "trick or treat" necessarily implies sex... at least not here.
If you say it to someone as an adult, such as at your office, people will think you are weird or something.
Unless it's a joke, then maybe you won't be as embarrassed.

Let me write down what I learned yesterday to make sure i understand them all
go mad, go red, go grey, go blind, go deaf, go crazy, go bad, go bold etc..
Go is used for changes in people's personality, appearance, and physical abilities.
The pages of the book have gone yellow over the years. (slowly color change)
turn red, turn white,turn gold

everyday verb make and do and common phrases with them
make is bacically about producing something, do is about performing an action.
make an excuse, make an effort(to do), make a change(to), make an arrangement make an improvement (to)etc..
do harm, do my hair, do an experiment, do work etc..

I'm a native English speaker. While the first sentence, "I've been studied hard these days," is technically proper, it implies that you were being studied, like you were a scientific experiment or something.

If you were trying to tell someone you've been busy studying, the second sentence is the one you want to use.

(Should I make a tripcode to post here? I suppose it would be helpful if I'm offering advice, but I'm not a fan of using them...)

It depends on who you ask.
If you are lazy and feel the world owes you everything you desire, then there is nothing wrong with socialism.
If you are a hard worker and want to earn everything you desire, then you don't have enough time to think about socialism.
If you are a politician or banker and steal everything you desire, then there is everything wrong with socialism.

In the official English subtitles by Crunchyroll, they make puns out of squid related words.

'Invasion (侵略)' becomes 'Inkvasion' (Ink meaning イカ墨)
'Quickly' becomes 'Squidly'

It sounds a bit strange, but there's nothing else they could do really. There's a lot of arguments amongst English speaking anime fans as to whether the puns are good or not.

"Hold on a second" means you are telling someone to wait.
It doesn't literally mean one second, just some short amount of time.
Typically you are telling them to wait for you to say/do something.

Native English speaker here. All three generally imply the same thing. Usually when you ask someone to wait for such a small amount of time, they will understand you don't expect them to take it literally.

Saying any of the above could accurately mean, "Please wait/hold on for a little while."

Sorry, I should have been more considerate.

Simplified:

All three pretty much mean the same thing. If you tell someone to wait for such a small amount of time, they will understand you don't mean it literally.

All three sentences you listed could mean, "Please wait/hold on for a little while."

"Nice/glad to see you" would be said if you see someone you have already met before.
"Nice/glad to meet you" would be said the first time you meet someone.

Nice, glad, or good could all be used correctly, the sentence would mean the same thing.

An Irishman, an Englishman and a Scotsman are caught in Saudi Arabia
drinking. "Under Saudi law you are sentenced to 30 lashes before
deportation,” said the prison guard, “You are entitled to something
on your back, what would you like?"
The English man asked for a Burberry coat. After the lashing, he was
taken in agony to the airport.
Next came the Scotsman. "Under Saudi law you are sentenced to 30
lashes before deportation,” said the prison guard, “You are entitled to
something on your back, what would you like?"
"Nothing" said the Scotsman and, after receiving his lashes, he spat on
the ground in disdain and was taken to the airport.
The guards then came to the Irishman. "Under Saudi law you are sentenced
to 30 lashes before deportation,” said the prison guard, “You are entitled
to something on your back, what would you like?"
"Oh", replied the Irishman, "I'll take the Scotsman."

An Englishman, a Scotsman and an Irishman were marooned on a dessert
island. One day an old lantern washed up on the beach, and the Englishman
picked it up and wiped off the dirt. As he did so, a genie suddenly appeared
and vowed to grant them each one wish. The Englishman thought for a moment
and then said, “I wish I was back in my garden at home sipping a gin and tonic.”
The genie said, “Your wish is my command,” and the Englishman disappeared
in a flash of smoke.
The Scotsman thought for a moment and said, “I wish I was sitting in my
favorite pub in Edinburgh drinking a large whisky.” The genie said, “Your
wish is my command,” and the Scotsman disappeared in a flash of smoke.
The Irishman looked around for a short while, and then said, “It’s lonely
here alone. I wish the other two were here.”

as english is our second language, obtaining knowledge through english is ineffective,
and sometimes frustrating. but there is no way around.

I think that English textbooks are far more sophisticated than Japanese ones.
One of the advantages by learning English is to get able to make use of the information written in English.

It comes from library usage.
When you take a book from a library, it's "checked out"
When you bring the book back again, it's "checked in"
This is also used in other situations when an object is loaned out, like company cars at work.

"Check in" and "check out" are also used for hotels. When you arrive, you check in to get a room.
When you leave, you check out so they know the room is free again.

When you are supposed to see someone before you can do something else, that can be a "check in" as well.
For example, when a non-student is visiting a school, he must visit the office to get a pass before being allowed
to do anything else. The signs say "Visitors must check in with the office for a pass!"

There's yet another usage in military and aviation - "check out" can be used to mean a test.
For example, if I want to rent an airplane, I have to take a short test in the airplane to demonstrate my ability to fly.
This is called a "check out". For example, "I need a check out in a Cessna single." - "This guy wants checked out in a 172."

See how messy just two words can be?
English is a freaking train wreck. I don't understand how anyone thinks this is a sensible system.
But like they say, you to go to war with the army you have, not the army you want...

"I'm playing tennis for 3 years" means you are playing tennis since 3 years ago to right now without a break and not finish yet.
In Japanese, "私は3年間テニスを(休みなく)プレイし続けている"
If you would like to say "私は3年間テニスを(習慣的に)している(今も続けている)".
Then you should say "I play tennis for 3 years".

"I've been playing tennis for 3 years" means you are playing tennis for 3 years, but you finished it already.
In Japanese, "私は3年間テニスを(休みなく)プレイし続けていた(今はしていない)"

Then you should say "I (have played tennis for 3 years" or "I (used to/would) play tennis for 3 years".

Well, you've seen baseball in Japanese, right?
You could just watch the game. You know how the game is played, so just pick out the words you recognize.
When you see something happen you know the Japanese word for, and you hear an English word you don't know,
chances are good that the English word means the same thing as the Japanese.

The word "ending" needs a subject, so you want "This thread is almost at its ending."
The second one is fine. You did misspell "grammar" though.

My life cycle is totally reversed.
I fall into sleep after 5am or even later and get up around noon. I wanna fix my cycle.

What should I do ?
I should not sleep today and keep awake until the midnight ?

That's not a good idea. It will affect your concentration and attention. Go to bed now and wake up before 10 in the morning. Don't take a nap during the daytime. Then you will feel super tired and sleepy at night and can go to sleep !

Hi my friend.

Oh it's good for you.

I have classes and two important exams today.
Altough I should have had more than 6 hrs sleep, maybe I'll get at best 3 hrs to sleep from now.

I'm so tired from being awake and I tried to sleep thousands of times...
But I still can't.
